Entities Overview
Entities serve as core organizational units within a workspace, allowing you to group users and define specific operational rules that override or supplement workspace-wide settings.
What is an Entity?
Every internal user in the system is assigned to an Entity. This assignment dictates how localized rules—such as absence management and currency tracking—apply to that user.
Key Features
The Entities module allows administrators to:
- Centralize Organization: Group internal users into precise organizational buckets.
- Maintain Currency Consistency: Each entity automatically inherits the workspace's base currency to ensure financial reporting remains consistent across the platform.
- Localize Absence Rules: Override workspace-wide leave policies with entity-specific rules (e.g., different holiday allowances, carryover limits, or approval chains tailored to a specific region or subsidiary).
How Entities Connect to Other Modules
Entities are deeply integrated with several core Compass modules:
- Users & Roles: When inviting or managing internal users, you must assign them to an Entity. This links the user to the entity's specific operational rules.
- Absence Management: Entities can have their own discrete Absence Management Settings, which override the global workspace settings for users assigned to that entity. This is critical for managing teams across different legal jurisdictions with varying labor laws.
Accessing Entities
To access the Entities module:
- Navigate to Entities in the left sidebar.
- You will land on the Entities Dashboard, which provides a complete list of all organizational entities configured in your workspace.
