Trips Overview

Manage travel logistics and expenses within Compass.

The Trips module enables organizations to plan business travel, track estimated and actual costs, and manage approval workflows for trip requests.

Key Features

  • Trip Planning: Create trip records with traveller, destination, dates, travel method, accommodation, and cost estimates.
  • Approval Workflows: Configure approval rules in Trip Settings to route trip requests for authorization.
  • Expense Tracking: Record actual transportation and stay costs against estimated amounts.
  • Project Linking: Optionally link trips to related projects for cost allocation.
  • Custom Fields: Extend trip records with organization-specific custom fields.
  • Bulk Delete: Select multiple trips in the dashboard to remove them at once (requires write permission).

Core Components

Trip Dashboard

The central hub for viewing trips. Click any trip to open a detail drawer on the right side of the screen, where you can view and edit trip information.

Trip Detail Drawer

When you click a trip on the dashboard, a side drawer opens showing:

  • Trip Header — Status and key info
  • Base Information — Traveller, dates, category, destination, travel method, accommodation, purpose of travel, notes
  • Expense — Cost of Transportation and Cost of Stay (estimated and actual)
  • Custom Fields — Organization-defined fields
  • Tabs:
    • Related Projects (conditional — only visible if trip is project-related)
    • Approval History
    • File Uploads
    • Related Trips

Trip Settings

Configure base settings, approval rules, and custom fields. Settings requires the appropriate permissions.
